The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Training or SANE Training has been developed by the Nurse Examiner Program- Sexual Assault Services staff at the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay and related community service agency staff.
Sexual Assault Services have a long history of providing a continuum of care for sexual assault survivors. Medical, forensic, law enforcement and counseling services come together in one facility with links to other community services to support survivors. It was the first in the State of Florida to organize and offer a wide range of services for survivors in a confidential, private setting. This successful program is now offering training that helps others prepare to be a part of this rewarding, challenging and compassionate field.
Sexual Assault Services Nurse Examiner Program's SANE course provide the 40 hours of didactic training required to qualify for the International SANE-A examination. The course has ten instructors using a variety of interactive approaches covering topics that include:
- forensic nursing history
- dynamics of sexual assault
- medico-legal examination and documentation
- crisis intervention assessment
- rape related post-traumatic stress disorder
- the law enforcement role
- the GYN exam and anatomy
- STDs and the CDC
- DNA-CODIS
- the judicial system with courtroom and deposition testimony principles in mock trial setting
- drug facilitated sexual assault
- forensic code of ethics
- victim-centered care concepts
- lab skills sessions
- field trips to FDLE/Crime Lab, Sexual Assault Services and the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay
Fees cover four days of training, course equipment and the course manual.
Our SANE-A course will be held August 22 - 25, 2011 in Tampa, Florida.
